Ramona Detroit-Style Pizza

Okay, pizza bees, let’s talk about Ramona. This place is definitely one of my faves. Nestled in a semi-outdoor space in New Cross (between Ancoats and Northern Quarter) with super relaxed vibes, it’s the perfect spot to chill with friends and devour some seriously good Detroit-style pizza. The DJs they have are always on point, and if you’re lucky, you’ll even catch some live music. Check their website for their lineups.

We went for a classic Margherita slice (simple, yet elegant) and something a little different: the Korean BBQ Pork. Both were cooked to perfection in those signature Detroit-style steel pans, resulting in a crispy, caramelized crust that is to die for. The Margherita is delicious, with tangy tomato sauce and just the right amount of fresh mozzarella. But the Korean BBQ pork? All I can say is wow. The combination of savoury, slightly sweet pork with a touch of spice was incredible.

And the sides? Don’t even get me started on the Jabba Tots. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and perfect for dipping in their array of sauces. We tried a couple, and honestly, they were all winners.

Here’s the buzz:

  • Vibe: Relaxed, semi-outdoor space, good for any time of year.
  • Must-try: Jabba Tots or any Tots for that matter, they’re a must.
  • Don’t miss: The dipping sauces. My partner is addicted to the Truffle Mayo.
  • Overall: A solid 5 out of 5 stars. Ramona delivers on taste, atmosphere, and that Detroit-style pizza goodness.
  • Price: Fair! For 2 people, we paid £40 for two slices, two dips, tots, a mocktail and a soft drink.
